Genetic counselling is offered in the following situations :

After the birth of a child with a genetic defect or a family history of a genetic condition — Pre-pregnancy counselling.

Couple with two or more pregnancy losses.

Couple who have a child with mental retardation.

When an abnormality is diagnosed by ultrasound.

Prior to any screening programme or invasive procedures.

Pregnancy with accidental exposure to medication or radiation.
